On Eating Plants: Why I went “veg” & the quest for good vegetarian grub

Okay, so I am not really a vegetarian, in fact, I am the least vegetarian of vegetarians as I call myself an ovo lacto pescetarian (I still eat eggs, dairy and seafood), and one that does the occasional meat cheat at that (very rarely, though! *defensive*).

However, I love eating plants, and while I used to enjoy steak, lechon and other meaty things, I found it was easier for me to eliminate that from my nutrition equation than it was to go on for days without veggies.

But yeah, the decision to go meatless started in late 2011, when my boyfriend Karlo shared this Vegetarian Starter Kit with me. Click the link if you’re considering going vegetarian. It just might be your tipping point. It was mine. 🙂 If that didn’t do it for you, maybe this video on slaughterhouses will.

And if you watched the above videos and were affected by them, but aren’t ready to go all out vegan right away, then start taking baby steps like I have, until you eliminate meat completely from your diet, then maybe eventually seafood, and… *gulp* maybe eggs and dairy products as well.

I also try to be on the lookout for tasty vegetarian fare, because I truly believe that going vegetarian doesn’t mean you have to eat food that tastes “vegetarian” (read: bland, tasteless, or cardboard-like). The only way to sustain being a vegetarian is to actually eat good-tasting vegetarian options, and that’s easier than most people think. So I’ll definitely try to do my part by sharing vegetarian food finds in this blog. 🙂

Some of my friends and family think I’m nuts when I say “the meat industry is one of the leading causes of climate change, and that’s why I choose to avoid meat (apart from the slaughtering of animals)”. The meat is THERE already, you won’t make much of a difference, some tell me. But if that’s how we think about all the problems around us, we’ll never really incite change now, will we?

If you’re ready to take on the challenge, click here to find out how you can get started.
And I’ll do what I can to show you that being vegetarian can be good for your tastebuds too. 🙂
